Roofing Materials
TPO & Flat Roofing
Single-ply membrane for the roofs a shingle cannot go on: flat, low-slope, commercial.
What Is TPO?
A single-ply thermoplastic membrane, rolled out in wide sheets and heat-welded at the seams so the finished roof is effectively one piece. It is what goes on a roof too flat to shed water the way a shingle roof does -- commercial buildings, flat additions, porch roofs and anything under about a 2:12 pitch.
Why Choose TPO & Flat Roofing
- Heat-welded seams rather than glued or taped ones
- Reflective white surface, which matters on a flat roof in an Oklahoma summer
- The right answer under about 2:12, where shingles will leak whatever you do
- Commercial, additions, porches and low-slope sections of a steep roof
Common Questions
Can I put shingles on a flat roof?
No. Shingles shed water down a slope; they do not seal. Below roughly 2:12 they will leak no matter how well they are installed, which is what membrane exists for.
Is TPO only for commercial buildings?
No. Plenty of houses have a flat section -- an addition, a porch, a dormer cheek -- and it needs the same treatment as a warehouse roof does.
