Synthetic Shake

Cedar's grain and depth, without the splitting, curling or rot that comes with the real thing.

What Is Synthetic Shake?

Polymer tiles moulded from real cedar shakes, so the grain and the split edges are a cedar shake's own. Real cedar is a maintenance roof: it moves with the weather, splits, cups, grows moss on the north slope and needs treating. Synthetic holds the look and does none of that.

Why Choose Synthetic Shake

  • Cedar's grain and irregular edge, moulded from the real thing
  • No splitting, cupping, rot or moss, and nothing to treat
  • Far better fire and impact ratings than natural cedar
  • Available in profiles from a light hand-split to a heavy shake

Common Questions

Do you install real cedar shake?

No. We install synthetic shake, which is what we would put on our own houses -- cedar in this climate is a maintenance commitment most owners regret.

Will it fade like cedar does?

It weathers far more slowly and far more evenly. The colour is through the tile rather than on it, so a scratch does not show a different colour underneath.
